When I was in school, I knew that I loved to dance. I danced at my local dance school multiple times per week, joined a dance club at school, I volunteered to teach dance outside of school hours, I took up GCSE dance, and even chose dance as one of my A Level subjects.

Why am I talking about my obsession for dancing? Don't worry- I'll get to the point, I promise it's relevant (sort of).

When it came to the end of my A Levels, it was time to move onto university. But I was faced with the all too common problem of figuring out what I wanted to do. I had two very strong interests at the time, one was (you guessed it) dancing, and the other was Psychology. I've always found it so fascinating.

Coming from a school that encouraged people into your typical academic subjects... I naturally chose to pursue my dream of being a professional dancer, so off I went to Liverpool to study Dance Practices. I loved every minute of this degree, and I stand by the fact that this was the best decision I ever made. I followed my passion, and although I didn't know it back then, it led me to where I am today- doing marketing for businesses in the dance, fitness, health & wellness industries. I still teach dance classes 3x per week too, it's what I love to do & it's the best feeling to share that joy with others!

The thing is, I never was able to shimmy and shake off (pun intended) my interest for Psychology. I weaved it into my Dance Practices degree any time I could. My dissertation was a facsinating deep dive into the relationship between motivation and the creative process of a dance comapny. I gained a 1st for this dissertation, despite a major spelling error on the front page that my dad alerted me to AFTER I submitted it- yikes! There's one example of why not to sweat the small stuff.

How did we get here?

After graduating I spent a number of years dancing, teaching, and gaining marketing experience. After several years in the industry I gained various marketing certifications, a Diploma in Social Media Marketing, and in 2021 I gained a place at Lincoln International Business School to study a Masters Degree in Management and Marketing.

During my time studying for my masters degree I discovered the statistic that 63% of fitness organisations struggle to attract new clients through digital channels. So, in early 2023 I handed in my final dissertation project - a deep dive into discovering the very best marketing methods for fitness organisations. This dissertation was underpinned by... you might have guessed it... PSYCHOLOGY.

So, now you've had my life story (thank you for staying with me this far), I want to touch on 3 psychology principles that could actually improve your marketing! Let's dive in.

3 PSYCHOLOGY PRINCIPLES TO IMPROVE YOUR MARKETING

Marketing is all about instilling emotions that encourage people to make a choice.

So psychology plays a BIG role in creating offers, graphics and copy that converts.

There are many ways psychology can be considered in Marketing, and in this blog I have highlighted three that stand out to me!

Maybe you'll start to notice these techniques in adverts that you see day to day, or perhaps you'll begin to use these principles in your own marketing?

Until next time, happy marketing (and happy dancing)!
